Profile Bio: Who is Michael Parkinson?

Sir Michael Parkinson CBE (28 March 1935 – 16 August 2023) was an English television presenter, broadcaster, journalist and author. He presented his television talk show Parkinson from 1971 to 1982 and from 1998 to 2007, as well as other talk shows and programmes both in the UK and abroad. He also worked in radio and was described by The Guardian as "the great British talkshow host".

He was called up for National Service in 1955 and took part in the Suez operation. At the age of 19, he became the youngest Captain in the British Army. One of the first celebrities he interviewed was Laurence Olivier on Cinema (1964). He famously dedicated a whole episode of Parkinson (1971) to an interview with George Michael following the singer's arrest for lewd conduct in the United States in 1998.
